Book review – Spying in high heels

18 May

L.A. shoe designer, Maddie Springer, lives her life by three rules: Fashion. Fashion. Fashion. But when she stumbles upon the work of a brutal killer, her life takes an unexpected turn from Manolos to murder. And things only get worse when her boyfriend disappears — along with $20 million in embezzled funds — and her every move is suddenly under…  scrutiny by LAPD’s sexiest cop. With the help of her post-menopausal bridezilla of a mother, a 300-pound psychic and one seriously oversexed best friend, Maddie finds herself stepping out of her stilettos and onto the trail of a murderer. But can she catch a killer before the killer catches up to her?

I picked this up since I though it would be funny and it was free. First off it was pretty funny and although I really didn’t expect much from the main character in the detective department I feel she did very well. The whole book wasn’t too fast pace, more along the lines of just right. I did feel like the love interest should have had in parentheses (seek more info in the upcoming books) Which I did guess and did get right how he plays into the sequel. There was an enormous amount food mentioned, enough for me to take notice. It was good. I’d consider buying the next book, if I had a job.

Like a car wreck

17 May

I don’t travel much since I don’t have a car or are currently employed but every now and again I visit older brother in prison. Occasionally there is a car accident which causes back to back traffic. The thing about it is; those congestions that happen around the car accidents seem to appear and then disappear like magic. Leaving you to wonder why they happen to begin with. Do people really need to stare at the ambulance as well as the wrecked remnants of somebody’s vehicle? Just continue on. I need to be someplace. It’s kind of like how this unemployment things is.  I don’t really understand where it came from but I want it to leave. Now!

Book review – Cameron’s law

17 May

Vampires are people, too. Cameron’s Law has made all supernatural creatures legal citizens, and the boy next door has suddenly become the werewolf next door. With Sadie Stanton, vampire and one of the public faces of the legislation, calling the little town of Adelheid, Connecticut home, it can’t help but be a focal point for these once mythical…  beings. But when vampires start attacking werewolves without provocation, Adelheid draws the attention of those that would seek to have Cameron’s Law repealed and would send the preternaturals back into the shadows they used to hide in, but without the safety of their anonymity and their law. Can Sadie keep the city’s two biggest species from descending into chaos and war before it brings all of them to harm? And can she do it when she herself gets thrust into the spotlight?

I picked this one up hoping to read something good involving the supernatural variety to which I can say. “It was alright.” What really got me was the attitude of the main character. There is a not so fine line between sarcasm and just being a b**** and this one is the latter of the two. I really couldn’t stand her behavior. I still managed to finish it although I don’t need to pick up the second book or anything else by this author.  As far as the plot goes I actually ending up forgetting what it was all about after becoming distracted by thinking about x-men and that movie about them fighting for equal rights and all that……. completely off topic here. I didn’t like the book.

Book review – Florida’s heat

16 May
Florida heat is murder – and in FLORIDA HEAT the bodies are stacking up at an alarming rate. From the moment Probation Officer Jo Cazimer witnesses a murder her life is in jeopardy. Working with her best friend Detective Kate Snow they struggle to identify the killer. But in Florida the snakes slither, the gators are hungry and a serial killer is on the loose.
It’s pretty obvious I picked this up cause it takes place in Florida so let me just say that I have a lot of complaints. For starters the author can’t seem to complain enough about the heat and misquotes. It’s not really that hot so much as humid. It’s tropical weather, what do you expect? Texas is worse. Next if you wear long sleeves and pants then you won’t get bit. Which you should know if you live in Florida. All I can remember about the character is they are all really good looking. That aside what really annoyed me was how I have to read the next book to figure out the murderer. I really hate it when this happens as I have no real desire to spend money when I’m not making any.

Book review – The Ugly Stepsister Strikes Back

15 May

Everyone knows how all those fairy tales go. The princess gets beautiful, nabs her prince, falls instantly in love, lives happily ever after and leaves her evil stepsisters in the dust. — But what happens when you’re the ugly stepsister and your obnoxiously perfect–read pretty, smart, and, worst of all, sickeningly nice–stepsister is dating the charming, tall, devastatingly handsome guy you’ve had a thing for since you were nine years old?

It only took me one day to read this entire book which just goes to show the depth this book possess (kind of like a kiddy pool, you shouldn’t be surprised that you can see the bottom) First off I feel as though the title leaves a word out. It should be the ugly/self centered stepsister strikes back. The main character is a whiny and perhaps a bit creepy when it comes to both her life and obsession for a certain good looking male. That apparently everyone that has ever laid eyes on (including the blind) instantly fall in love with. It like the  last book I reviewed, it screamed that it was made to be a Disney movie. Poor little ugly child that everyone ignores finds a way to win the heart of the best looking guy in school. That it what I felt was the message that was supposed to be conveyed but all I saw was an annoying self centered brat that chose her own path in life and refused to own up to it. Until the ending which was as clichéd as I knew it was going to be.
